This is the middle, of the journey that is. I’m just now getting the courage to start documenting it. Come follow me to see where I came from, where I’m at and where I plan to go.
I’m in the process of looking for a school bus to convert into an RV, becoming a skoolie. I live in an apartment and have nowhere to work on this project, so I had to find a place willing to let me park a 40′ school bus.
Update 04/09/2013, I finely found a spot to park and work on the bus. Now it is time to go shopping.
Update 05/09/2013, I have looked at many bus dealers and decided that they are charging almost double for a school bus. I’m going to wait until my local school district put their buses up for auction. This will be around 06/14/2013. Instead of paying around $7,000.00, I could get a bus for under $3,000.00. The wait is killing me; I’m looking forward to getting started converting the bus. I have many ideas and some of them will be unconventional. Stay tuned.
Update 07/02/2013, bus has been won at action for $2605.00. I have picked up the bus and will start the demolition.
Update 01/05/2014 We just finished our first journey in the bus. Durango and I traveled to Lafayette Indiana to visit family for the holidays. Check it out here Our First Trip
Update 10/25/2015 We are now living full time in the bus. Check in from time to time to see how we are doing.
I do have a Quality Assurance team to make sure I don’t screw things up too bad.
But what type of bus should I get you ask? Well, that seems to change with who you talk to.
How much will it cost? Can I do the work myself? How should I insulate it, or does it need to be insulated? Where do I start building in the bus? How do I heat it?
Lots of questions to ask and many answers you will get. I will have a page that will be used to document the bus build. I will use the blog to discuss the various decisions I’m making and hope will help you answer some of these questions yourself.
Someday this will be the view out my front door.
Please follow along in my journey.
